British Injustice in occupied Ireland
The Ard Chomhairle of Republican Sinn Fèin sends solidarity greetings and best wishes to Colin Duffy and his family on his release from Maghaberry concentration camp. From Colin Duffy’s experience with British justice it is clear that not much has changed since the days of the Birmingham six and the Guilford four, British justice is the same as it always was for the Irish, non- existent. It is disgraceful that in the year of 2012 Irish men and women are still the victims of set-ups and planted evidence at the hands of the occupying British crown forces. Republican Sinn Fèin are calling for the immediate release of Liam Campbell, Marian Price, Brian Shivers and all political hostages being held by the forces of the crown in the occupied six counties. What these people are facing is simply internment under a different name, and this must be resisted in every way possible. Republican Sinn Fèin are calling on all Irish Republicans and concerned Irish people to stand behind the Irish prisoners being held in British concentration camps in the six occupied counties, by holding protests and doing everything in their power to highlight the suffering of these Irish prisoners at the hands of the British crown. It is our duty as Irish Republicans, to bring the plight of these Irish prisoners to the attention of the people of the world, and show the world the Imperialist tyrants the forces of the British crown truly are.

RTE AND FREE STATE POLICE CONTINUE TO TARNISH LIMERICK
The portraying of a negative image of Limerick is now reaching
a stage where it seems even the national broadcaster can make
fun of the city, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today.
Joe Lynch of Ballinacurra Weston, the local RSF chairman said that
two incidents in recent days had clearly demonstrated the
attitude of the Irish Free State regime towards Limerick.
It has been brought to my attention that during a visit to a Dublin
courthouse on Friday last a group of people from Limerick were
detained and searched, he said.
While a level of security in a court house is to be expected it
was the comment that aroused the ire of the Limerick people
when the police said: “Search them, they might have knives,
they are from Limerick.”
It is this type of attitude that tarnishes all the people of the
city and it should not be tolerated especially when coming
from the Free State political police, Who consider
themselves "forces of official Ireland".
The negative attitude towards Limerick was again displayed
on Saturday when RTE radio broadcast a piece depicting
a Charlie Bird interview with the Free State Minister for Justice who
was advised that the prison crisis could easily be solved by
building a wall around Limerick.
While there is a place for humour, it should not be at the
expense of a city that is suffering from crime and massive
deprivation. Limerick does not deserve to be tarnished
in this way.

Arrests and harassment of Irish Republicans
In recent days the level of harassment of Irish Republicans has been stepped up dramatically by Free State Forces. Three members of Republican Sinn Fèin were arrested in Dublin this week, two of them were held for 72 hours and the other for 24 hours. They have since been released without charge, with files being sent to the Free State DPP on them all. A member of Republican Sinn Fèin was arrested in Ennis county Clare also this week. The Republican was arrested at his home by members of the Free State special branch and taken to Henry Street Garda station in limerick city where he was held for 24 hours. He was then brought before the Free State district court in Limerick where he was charged with allegedly giving a false name to the Free State special branch. He has been released on bail. A member of Republican Sinn Fèin, from Listowel in county Kerry, John Sheehy was last week imprisoned in Cork jail by the Free State regime for selling Easter Lily’s . John Sheehy was sentenced to 4 days in jail for selling Easter Lily’s after he was arrested in Listowel town in 2010 by Free State forces, while selling Easter lily’s.The leadership of Republican Sinn Fèin condemns this harassment of our members by the Free State regime, who are the willing puppets of the British forces of occupation who have subjected our country to over 800 years of tyranny and oppression. These harassment tactics have not worked in the past and they will not work now. Republican Sinn Fèin will not be intimidated by the British occupier or the Irish traitor.

Dublin Republicans on IRA membership charges in Free State non-jury Special Criminal Court
Two Dublin Republicans appeared before a late sitting of the Free State non-jury Special Criminal Court on Friday last charged with possession of firearms and IRA membership. Robert Nolan and Dermot Gannon were both charged by the Free State regime with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on January 11, 2012. Dermot Gannon is also charged with possession of a Webley revolver at Beechgrove Avenue, Ballinacura Weston, Limerick on the same date.

AGENCY CHIEF UNDER FIRE FOR GOOD PEOPLE COMMENT
The chief of the Limerick Regeneration Agencies came under
fire today for saying that all the good people have left the
troubled estates in the city.
Brendan Kenny made the claim on local radio defending
his agencies lack of action because despite over 100 million
euro being spent not one new house has been built.
The chief of these agencies must be living in a different
world local community activist Joe Lynch from Beechgrove
Avenue in Ballinacurra Weston said today.
The regeneration agencies have failed in their objective and
by the chief executive claiming that all the good people have
left the troubled areas is he implying that only bad people
have remained in their houses?
The fact is the regeneration agencies have dispersed some
troublesome families to outlying areas and by doing so
have merely exported criminal behaviour into County
Limerick and County Clare.
The estates of Limerick – and the good people living in
these estates – are still subject to anti-social behaviour
and the activities of drug gangs.
The fact is Mister Kenny does not have much to show for
one hundred million euro. How much of this vast sum
was spent on public relations? How much on salaries and
travel and entertainment? These are the questions that the
newly appointed Free State Minister for Housing Jan O’Sullivan
should be asking of Mister Kenny. He has done a dis-
service to the good people living in these estates.

HOME NO GO AREA FOR ANTI CHARGE CAMPAIGNER
A Limerick pensioner has declared his home a “no go area”
for the new household charge and is now encouraging other
people to take the same action.
Sean O’Neill from Quinn’s Cottages in Prospect has posted
warning signs on his windows drawing attention to his
anti-household charge campaign.
He said today that the new household charge is unfair and
unjust and it hits some of the most vulnerable people in
society.
The fact is there are many pensioners who are struggling to
survive financially in the current difficult economic
climate. While they may own their homes it is an investment they
have paid for all their lives and now with their incomes
reduced they are barely able to manage.
This new tax hits the old and those on social welfare
who are now paying the price for the criminal actions
of the corrupt bankers and property speculators.
The ordinary decent people of Ireland are being crucified
by the politicians who are bailing out their friends in
the banks by cutting the incomes of the most needy in
our society. It is a national scandal.
I am now urging people to put posters in their
windows declaring their opposition to this new
household charge.

NO FRACKING FOR BURREN SAY RSF
The secrecy surrounding the allocation of gas exploration
licences in areas of great natural beauty such as the Burren
in County Clare must be lifted and the public consulted on
such plans, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today.
Paddy Kenneally, from Crusheen, the local RSF chairman said
that the issue is now becoming crucial in the light of deals
done behind closed doors.
At present the 26 County Administration is involved with a
muilti-national company in granting certain rights to explore
for gas along the border area, he said.
The search for shale gas is ongoing in many parts of Ireland
and it involves a process of hydraulic fracturing, known
as fracking to extract gas.
This type of operation will create the risk of earthquakes
and cause ground water pollution and it must not be used
in a sensitive natural environmental area like the Burren.
We are totally opposed to any licence being granted for any
such exploration work in the Burren of County Clare as it
could cause untold damage to the area.
Already the unique attraction of the Burren is threatened by
unconstrained tourism and developments that bring too
many people into the area. Fracking cannot be allowed in
this part of County Clare whatever the potential of finding
shale gas.

The following photos were taken at the wreath laying ceremonies held in memory of Dáithí Ó Conaill and Martin Savage on New Year’s Day by Dublin Republican Sinn Fèin. Below the photos is part of the oration from the wreath laying ceremony in memory of Dáithí Ó Conaill.
Republican Sinn Fèin wreath laying in memory of Dáithí Ó Conaill 01/01/2012
A Cairde,
We in the Liam Kenny/ Kevin Barry cumann of Republican Sinn Fèin gather here today to remember a true Irish patriot, Dáithí Ó Conaill . Dáithí was born in Cork in 1938 and would have known from an early age the true horror of the British occupying forces who murdered his own Uncle Michael O'Sullivan in his native Cork. Dáithí joined the Republican Movement at 17 years of age and played a major role in the IRA border campaign in which Fergal O'Hanlon and Sean South were both to pay the ultimate sacrifice in the fight for Irish freedom. Dáithí was a dedicated Republican who spent his whole life fighting for the freedom of our nation. Never once during his illegal incarceration on both sides of the border did he step away from the Republican path which has been created by all true Irish men and women and NOR SHALL WE.
We would like to take this opportunity to send out solidarity greetings to all Republican organisations, members and all POW's who keep the fight alive. We would also like to take this opportunity to offer our support and best wishes to Cathleen Knowles who is currently unwell and who is always in our thoughts like our fallen comrade Óglach Liam Kenny.
Now I will call upon one of our members to lay a wreath in memory our comrade and may we never forget his brave actions and deeds.
Go raibh maith agaibh

CITY HOUSES VACANT AS DEMAND SOARS
Limerick’s newly appointed Free State Minister for Housing, Deputy
Jan O’Sullivan must take an urgent look at the situation in
the city where almost four thousand people are waiting for
accommodation while local authority houses are vacant, a
spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today.
Mick The Quill Ryan from Ballynanty said that the latest
figures show 378 City Council owned houses in Limerick
are lying idle and unoccupied.
The fact is these houses are decaying while nearly four
thousand people are on the city council housing list, he
said. At the moment there is some confusion between the role
of the Limerick City Council and the Limerick Regeneration
Agencies.
Of the 378 vacant houses, it is said that 269 are scheduled
for demolition by the Regeneration Agencies but the fact is
there is no house building going on in Limerick.
Surely at a time of great demand for housing in the city,
it is a scandal that 378 dwellings are lying idle. There has been a recent
comment by the Free State Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan that there
is uncertainty in relation to the role of the Regeneration
Agencies and the Minister has also stated that there is a need for clarity.
It is time that these houses were
re-furbished and allocated to those on the housing list rather
than being demolished.

RSF OPPOSE NEW CHARGES
The imposition of the new household charge and the
septic tank levy are further financial burdens being placed
on ordinary people to pay for the actions of criminal bankers
and property speculators, the Limerick based President of
Republican Sinn Fein said today.
Seamus O Suilleabhain from Broadford in County Limerick
addressing a meeting of the RSF Munster Executive in
Limerick said that the ordinary people – and some of the
most vulnerable in society – are being forced to make
sacrifices by a Fine Gael and Labour Administration who
favour the wealthy and powerful.
The new household charge will push many struggling
families into poverty and no amount of demonising those
who oppose it will make it acceptable to the majority of
the Irish people.
We are now approaching a time when the ordinary people are being over taxed
while the wealthy and powerful continue to peddle their
influence at the Cabinet table.
It is time that the voice of the people is heard and we
in RSF intend to raise these issues and encourage the
people to protest against the imposition of these unfair
new charges.

POLICE RIGHT TO DAMAGE MUST BE TACKLED
A new tactic by Special Branch police who use force to break into
private homes and cause damage has been criticised by a Limerick
spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein.
Joe Lynch from Beechgrove Avenue the Limerick RSF chairman
said that the police now claim they may cause damage and not be
held liable under a new approach to executing warrants.
In recent days a number of homes in the Limerick area have been
raided by the political police and damage caused to doors. When
the damage was pointed out to the police they replied that they
could act as the liked under a search warrant.
In short the police claim they are not liable for any damage
they cause when they have a warrant. But they smash down
doors without any solid reason. In fact in all the raids nothing
was found nor confiscated by the police.
Instead of smashing down doors they could simply have
knocked and the residents would have admitted them. All
this signals a return to the days of the infamous Heavy Gang
and it must be deplored.
No force must be given the right to damage property,
they must be accountable to the law and we will be
raising the issue with the current Fine Gael and Labour
Administration.
The City Council also say they are not liable for any
repairs to houses damaged by the police and the police
say they have a right to cause such damage. This
Catch 22 situation cannot be tolerated and it must
be tackled.
